Re: Installing BackTrack 4 on MacBook Pro Model 2009

Macintosh (Mac Abstract), now have an Intel architecture, which makes them identical installation to other computers. Below is how to install Backtrack on Intel Macs.

Installing Boot Camp:
  • Restart OS X.

  • With Boot Camp Assistant (/ Applications / Utilities /), adding a fat32 partition larger than 4 GB

Installing Refit:
  • Restart OS X

  • At startup menu appears REFIT.

  • Select the second icon on the bottom line. Enter "y" and "Enter". This tool partitionemment refit.

  • Restart OS X.

Re: Installing BackTrack 4 on MacBook Pro Model 2009

Once you are done with Installing Refit you need to do Disk Partitioning:
Burn the Backtrack iso . A reduced burn speed is recommended for best results.

After etching to leave the cd in the drive, and restart the mac.

Start the Backtrack cd (the penguin / penguin with cd ..).

At the login prompt enter:
Code:
 User: root
   Password: toor
To have a mac keyboard to enter:
Code:
xorgconfig
At the step of selecting the type of keyboard to type "108" and "Enter". Then type in fdisk:
Code:
 fdisk / dev / sda
In fdisk:
Code:
 Delete the partition Fat32:

  d
  3

       Create the / partition:

   n
   p
   3
Enter the size you want for your /
t (not useful, the partition is set 83 by default)
   83

       Create the swap partition:

   n
   p (4 is selected automatically)
Indicate the size you want for the swap (Recall that the swap should be 1.5 times to 2 times
than your RAM. No need for a swap partition greater than 2GB, but it is possible
   bring it up to 4GB)
   t
   82
Create file systems:
Code:
mkfs.ext3 / dev/sda3
   mkswap / dev/sda4

Re: Installing BackTrack 4 on MacBook Pro Model 2009

To install BackTrack start again on the cd of backtrack. Perform mounts filesystems. To do so:
Quote:
mkdir / mnt / bt
mount / dev/sda3 / mnt / bt
swapon / dev/sda4
Start the graphical server:
Quote:
startx
Do not put anything in "source". Select to "Install Backtrack to": "/ mnt / bt". Select to "Write to MBR": "/ dev / sda" . Select "Installation Method" 'Real' . Click the Install button. When installing, copying files seems to hang on "/ usr" '. This file is in 400 MB, so be patient.

Re: Installing BackTrack 4 on MacBook Pro Model 2009

Thats great tip, buddies. Keep it up. I am need of similar help from you all and hope you guys can help me out for sure. I recently purchased a Macbook Pro, which brings me Airport Extreme card that supposedly supports monitor mode and used to break WEP. I've looked online and saw the only way is from Linux, and I've put the BackTrack , but when I prepare the following steps:
Quote:
airmon-ng start ath0
airmon-ng start wifi0
airodump-ng ath0
It gives me an error message stating "Do not put me to scan."

Please help ...

Re: Installing BackTrack 4 on MacBook Pro Model 2009

Use a soft called KisMAC in OSX, just download, install and choose the plugin preferences airport extreme active mode. After you include all the channels and you start to scan. With this software you can not inject traffic but if you can hear.

Or else, instead of using BT4, which I have not got it to work, get off the final 1.0 WifiWay distro with support for Atheros driver (if you have installed bootcamp, at least in mine, in the windows partition driver used for the card is atheros) in wif.
