As per my knowledge .mov files uses some different codecs which is not compatible with iMovie and that's why iMovie does not import a .MOV file. You have to convert it to the compatible format of the iMovie to import this. Just use following steps to do this.
.First download MPEG Streamclip from the here.
.Now install that application.
.Now open this application and then drag that video clip in this software.
.Now go to the File -> Now select "Export to QuickTime". option.
.Now choose the Apple Intermediate Codec -> now select folder/desktop location.
.Now open iMovie -> now go to the File ->now go to the Import -> now go to the Movies and navigate to where the file is -> now create new event and import into iMovie.
