32-bit Linux and 24 GB RAM

I am having a 4 core Westmere-EP processor Intel on which i am planning to run 32-bit SUSE Linux. So my question is that it will run fine on the same configuration or not. It is running OK with the 4 GB used but i am not sure about 24GB. So if you are having the knowledge about the 32-bit Linux and 24 GB RAM then let me know about the same. Thank you.

As per my knowledge it is possible to run on the configuration that you have asked about as there is no problem running it with the 32 bit. But if it comes to the 64 bit then there might be some of the problem may arrive due to compatibility of the same. So if you are willing to run it on the 32 bit then you are right way.

Re: 32-bit Linux and 24 GB RAM

I have searched about your query and come to know that 32 bit Operating system only support upto the 3 gig Actually 32 bit OS's use a max of 3gig. In which 1 gig is of the address space is always reserved for then operating system. So if you are planning to run the same on the 32 bit then i don't think so that there is any issue in the same.

Re: 32-bit Linux and 24 GB RAM

As per your query let me tell you that this is possible because if it comes to the process then it uses 3Gb but when it comes to the 32bit Operating system then you can go through the 24GB RAM as it is having the support for then same. It is important while you are selecting the PAE/64 bit kernel then you have to decide about the process which you are using so that you can keep the RAM according to that.
