Slow Backup

Two machines, Win7 on each. A USB external drive for each machine, roughly the same amount of data on each PC, with perhaps 150 GIGs already on each of the two drives. On Machine A, I can do a complete backup with system images in about 25 minutes. On Machine B, I can start the same routine on it at 8pm and at 8am next morning, it MIGHT be 1/2 finished. I swapped the external drives, ran the backup with system image on each, same result. System A backs up fast, System B, slowly. They're both very high performing machines in every respect except I cannot get a backup done on Machine B.
