Professionals who wish to quickly dispose of a virtualization of Windows XP are meeting with the duo of Windows XP and Windows Virtual PC mode . If you have a processor with virtualization technology Intel VT-x or AMD-V, this environment is for you. All the elements are there to install it without wasting time the guest system, with the installation of the update Virtual PC for Windows 7, then the choice of installing Windows XP license mode (32 or 64 bits). The operation in windowed mode or full screen in Windows 7 could not be more intuitive. Mode Windows XP could be mistaken for an application as another Windows 7. No combination of keys to make the transition from one mouse to another environment, the applications installed on Windows XP are also directly accessible from the Start menu of Windows Seven.

The free virtualization solution "more open" does not require the use of Intel VT-x or AMD-V to virtualize Windows 7, Vista, XP, Linux or Mac OS X. It is multiplatform and can access a maximum of 32 virtual processors when the host machine has instructions VT-x or AMD-V. The OS can use the virtualized Windows applications and games DirectX 8 and 9 (experimental). Support for OpenGL 2.0 is even possible for guest operating systems Windows, Linux and Solaris. The solution VMWare Workstation works on it also with or without VT-x and AMD-V. It supports 3D graphics DirectX 9.0c with Shader Model 2.

Virtual PC with Windows, it is true that you can run Windows XP or a Linux distribution but do not expect miracles on the side of the 3D acceleration is not supported. Under VirtualBox or VMWare, the user can activate this feature, but also adjust the size of video memory. He has an impressive amount of features such as USB 2.0, the management of the iPod, the allocation of a letter to the virtual disks, video capture of all activities, up to 8 GB per VM The 64bit sound card supported, the server DHCP, remote connection, the adjustment of network bandwidth, display of multiple virtual machines on separate monitors.

You must have a really entry-level processor (Pentium or Pentium type Dual Core). The first Core 2 Duo fully supports VT. Certainly, this mode is a good idea, but it needs to install the XP drivers. You may face the problem on a PC with Win 7 Pro: ATI drivers for my HD4850 a little bug in XP. That is why I prefer a good old VirtualBox or VMWare. While AC XP requires a license, but as they emulate hardware (unlike XP mode, which apparently offers almost direct access), the drivers installed in 2 moves the ladle. And not need VT, even if the performance would feel the blow.

Recall that the method is available in XP Professional and Ultimate editions of Windows 7. Through a module to download for free, it allows users to have a virtualized Windows XP environment within a dedicated window. We can then set this mode to run applications independently of the virtual machine is then possible to display their windows on the outside of the virtual machine. When Windows 7 is released, it appeared that the method needed XP to function, sets of instructions dedicated hardware virtualization in Intel and AMD. However, the Intel VT (Intel Virtualization Technology) and AMD-V were not so common. Microsoft has decided to remedy the situation. Via a new update, the XP mode no longer needed technology Intel VT or AMD-V to operate. This will increase consistently compatible with the function of machines. However, the way XP will continue to use virtualization technologies if they are available.
