Try the steps below to achieve this

    • Go to Start menu and click Run and then type "regedit" without the double quotes.
    • In the registry window open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard
    • Change the InitialKeyboardIndicators chain entry from 0 to 2 this will make the num lock on at every start up.

As far as i know it is not possible to activate the numlock key at startup so i would suggest you if you want to get rid of this problem then try to change the password so that it does not contain any number or try to mnake a habit of tyoing the numbers from the numerical keys which are above the alphabetical keys this should definitely help you to solve this problem.

Click Start Search Vista and type REGEDIT and Press enter. Unroll then turn the key HKEY_USERS, .DEFAULT, Control Panel, Keyboard. In the right pane, double-click the value InitialKeyboardIndicators.
    - In the Data value, enter 2 to activate the keypad at startup. Click OK.
    - Then turn the scroll key HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Control Panel, Keyboard. In
the right pane, double-click the value InitialKeyboardIndicators. Enter also 2 in the field Value data and click OK. Close the Registry Editor and restart the microphone to apply the changes.

IF you do not want to edit the registry key or you are not able to edit the registry keys as mentioned in the above replies. There is another way to achieve this by downloading and installing a new registry file called numlock-on.reg after downloading it simply double click this file and the numlock will be locked at every start up.
