Windows 7 Ultimate "This copy of Windows is not genuine"

My friend works for a company and he got a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate from some tech day that he visited at some place. So he gave that to me and I installed it on my machine cleanly. Now after booting it up I was shocked to notice that in the right side corner of the desktop on the machine there was a message called "This copy of Windows is not Genuine". Well, if he got this from a tech company then it should be a legal version of Windows, isnt it? What can I do to solve this issue now?

You might have typed wrong product key at the time of installation of Windows 7. Try to do a clean boot by following the below procedure:

    • Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
    • Click Start type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.
    • If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
    • If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
    • On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
    • Click OK, and then click Restart.

Note: Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.

You can also try to run the MGA Diagnostic Tool from here. After the installation comepletes launch the MGA Diagnostic Tool. Then click on the continue button, afterwards click the Resolve button incase if it is highlighted which is located under the Windows tab. Then simply restart the computer. Check whether you are still getting the message or not.

If both of the above solutions fails then try to retype and re-enter the same product key to activate Windows. If that doesnt work either then you can always run SLUI 4.exe and re-activate Windows by phone. Normally this problem occurs only because of non genuine copy or even using some wrong product keys, which in your case is different if you got the Windows copy from some tech company or so.

How to activate Windows 7 ultimate:

    • First, click on the activate button, and remember to run as administrator or turning off the user account control in case if it is on.
    • You will be prompted to enter some keys, so enter it and then wait for some time, afterwards you will get a confirmation saying that it is activated.
    • Now, you can enjoy your copy of Windows 7 and dont have to repeat the procedures any more.

First set the correct time zone for your computer. To do this follow the below given steps.

1.Right click on the clock, at the right bottom of your screen, and click on Adjust Date/Time.
2.Click on the Change time zone button
3.Select the correct time zone and click OK. If you are in a region with DST, make sure you have checked the “Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time” checkbox.

Now restart your computer and check whether it is giving the same message. Try to perform wiondows updates as well.
