How to move window 7 to a different partition?

Actually I am running my windows Xp operating system on my computer system but when a window 7 is launched I have installed the windows 7 on my computer system. Now I am using my computer system on windows 7 and now I feel there is no use of windows xp so I want to remove windows xp but for that my primary C: drive will remain empty. I think that is not a good solution because primary partition is the fastest partition and I want to shift my window 7 to the primary partition i.e. C: drive. So I need help related to this topic.

For shifting the partition to other drive you have to follow these simple steps.

    1. First you have to the drive on which you want to transfer the Window 7 operating system
    2. After that create a new partition in place of the other one.
    3. After that clone the operating system you want to move to other partition I mean window 7
    4. After that repair the boot data using Windows 7 DVD
    5. After that restart your computer system on the cloned window 7
    6. After that you have to edit the registry so that it can reflect the partition location and the letter of the drive.
    7. If your new operating system works well then delete the old one.

Thanks for your reply but my friend you have given the solution in a very brief way. I am not a technical freak. It will be better if you please give me the solution for the problem in a little more detail way, and one more time thanks for the efforts you have made and I will be waiting for your next reply.

Re: How to move window 7 to a different partition?

You can erase the partition from within windows 7 operating system or the partition you want to move.
For that you have to go to the disk management:
Start -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management.
After that locate the old partition and right-click erase it.
I just want to make one thing clear that all the data on that partition will remove so it will better if make a backup for that.
Now repair your operating system and boot into it.

Means load the window 7 DVD and then click on the repair -> click next -> startup repair.

    Inside Windows:
Start -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management -> locate the drive you want to create the partition in -> Right click -> New simple volume-> next -> Size you want (All of it generally) -> Drive letter (anything for now) -> Format in NTFS, Default, Volume Label (give it a nice short name with no spaces and under 8 characters for compatibility) + perform quick format, do NOT enable compression-> next -> Finish.
    After that steps are simple
Duplicate your window 7 partition and repair the boot data.
Fix the registry and you have to place the first partition to C:
alter the drive letter settings in the Registry
If you think that you have all your data on the new Partition
    Then delete the older one

Re: How to move window 7 to a different partition?

I am also having a similar solution but using a utility software.
First you have to do the same thing that you have to delete the primary partition to which you want to shift the operating system
After that you can create a new partition using diskpart.

You have to select a disk and the type in create partition primary.
After that the steps are similar to which are mentioned in the above reply:
    1. copy the partition of window 7
    2. Now you have to repair the boot data.
    3. Fix the registry and you have to place the first partition to C:
    4. Modify the drive letter settings in the Registry
