How to use Linux and GFS to create clustered storage

    Hi all,

Load balancing is a difficult task. We often need NFS Or other mechanism to provide for the data center addresses, in order to share file system. Although the security mechanisms i may be able to let you from Web server node failures, but i still need a central storage node to share data. Can anybody know how to use Linux and GFS to create clustered storage. Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

Running GFS means that you are running a cluster. So far, the easiest to run GFS means is the use of Red Hat Cluster Suite. This package in CentOS in there. In addition, they also need the following package: cman - cluster manager; lvm2-cluster - make LVM (Logical Volume Manager) can support clusters CLVM (Cluster Logical Volume Manager) package; kmod-gfs - GFS kernel module ; finally gfs-utils. Cluster Manager contains the necessary tools, such as the Distributed Lock Manager. Unless you want to take the time to confirm the distribution of the different versions of how the use of cman, otherwise, we strongly recommend using CentOS or RHEL. At the same time, you will also receive RH (Red Hat) maintained by the latest version of the cluster services, in addition you get a more stable environment. Check and reply.

You can go / etc / cluster / inside cluster.conf completion of most of the cluster settings. I would not recommend the use of a variety of cluster management application to create the settings file. Even the full support of RHEL applications, such as two months ago released Conga, often creates some invalid cluster.conf documents, and essential services can not be resolved. Check and reply.

Each node within the cluster to declare that their denial of way name is unique. The clusternames end tag below fencedevice part of the definition we see how the denial of each node to other nodes ways. The use of a support IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) server is the best way, but its settings are quite simple. You simply log on IPMI-way location and told the IP on it. In order to avoid left cluster.conf password, you can use it to point to a script owned by root by the script to return password. Check and reply.

Re: How to use Linux and GFS to create clustered storage

First, you need to set up CLVM, so that we can pass GFS using LVM. As long as lvm.conf activation CLVM set "locking type = 3" on it. Then, just as usual to create an LVM volume group and volume, but using a shared block device. If you are using DRBD, you will likely use / dev/drbd0. I created a physical volume, and then create a volume group named vg01, and then create a logical volume named web1, this volume in: / dev/vg01/web1. Finally, we need to createFile System:gfs_mkfs-t web1: mygfs-p lock_dlm-j 2 / dev/vg01/web1. -t in the given name must be the name of the cluster, and then followed by the file system you have played to this name. Check and reply.

You can start using the file system. In the two nodes start "clvmd" and "gfs" service. Now you can "-t gfs" to the type designated as the GFS, and thus load the file system. Before starting at the beginning, you must set a good cman, clvmd and gfs services. You'd better be familiar with clustat and gfs_tool command, because the problems in the system, you can use these commands to find the problem. All the best.
