    Problem with apt-get upgrade

    Hello,
I tried to install "tcpdump" with "dpkg-i", but I had an addiction problem with libpcap, normal. But by switching to something else, when I "apt-get upgrade" I get the error message. How is it that he remembers my previous installation attempt? How can I do the update of apt-get. Any help on this will help me and also if you know how to reinstall it then please let me know I am the interested on here. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I think you should try the following command in the terminal as a root user.
    Code:
    apt-get-f install
as you stated explicitly the message? what is the error reported in this case? If you need more help on the same then you can visit the official site of the linux distribution you are using and there you can find more detailed information on how to upgrade the apt-get.

    Re: Problem with apt-get upgrade

    Hello,
The problem is the same even for me the apt-get is not getting upgraded. I have done "apt-get update" before.
This is what I have tried
    Code:
    apt-get-f install
it will force the installation of TCPDUMP, or no longer want to install it, just do a "apt-get upgrade" over pkg already installed. And I will wish him to "forget" that I tried to install "TCPDUMP" before.

    Hello,
I do not see where it says it will install tcpdump? You just want to install libpcap0.8. Otherwise try 'apt-get purge tcpdump' before the upgrade. I think if you have more problems with this then you should do a clean install that is a fresh install of the apt-get, which is the distribution you are using? you can easily install it from the official site of the distribution you are using.

    Hello,

You just want to install libpcap0.8.
I wants to install libpcap0.8 because it is a prerequisite for TCPDUMP and just before I tried to install tcpdump.
    The problem was solved by
    Code:
    apt-get remove - purge tcpdump
(when I tried to install tcpdump, it had reported a bp of independence (libpcap08) but I do not think he had even when installed). Now the "apt-get upgrade" works fine.
