Microsoft decided to not support upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, despite popular opinion that it is a critical capability. As an Windows XP user, you can purchase the upgrade copy of Windows 7 (for the reduced price), but you must clean install (install the operating system, install all your programs, and copy over your files from scratch) Windows 7 as the installer will prevent you from upgrading from Windows XP.

    Hi thanks for the reply.

I was wondering if windows 7 is easy to maintain. I mean I was using XP and I got so many problems with it that I kept needing to call in professionals and forking out lots of money.

I want to change over if it is going to be a smooth operating system? functionality wise as well

With Windows XP, a taskbar shows the programs you've got open and lists the associated files you're working with. With Windows Vista, if you hover over a program on the taskbar you can see thumbnail images of files you have open with that program. But you can't interact with the files. With Windows 7, you can point to a taskbar icon to see actual images of all of your open files or programs. Then, move your mouse over the image to preview the window full-screen. Click on the full screen image, and you can start working with it immediately. You can even close windows from the thumbnail previews—a big time saver.
