    Installing glibc under Debian

    Hello,
I try to install a program that requires glibc (glibc6) to work, during installation it says it lacks / lib/glibc.so.6. What package should I install? I have no much idea about it. so, if you know how to do this then please help me. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
If you familiar with the linux basic command then you can use this command ot install the lib and then install the glibs receptively.
    Here is the command
    Code:
    apt-get install libc6
I think this should solve your problem. Also remember that you have to issue this command in the terminal as a root user.

    Re: Installing glibc under Debian

    Hello,
Even I am trying to install the same but it is not working for me.
    Here is what I do
    Code:
    debian: / home / gros # apt-get install libc6
    Reading package lists ... Made
    Building dependency tree ... Made
libc6 is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 322 not upgraded.
This library is properly installed and not yet glibc.so.6 file into the directory / lib. I guess you have got an idea about the following and you will solve your problem.

    Hello,
Alternatively I think you can even do this and it will help you. A simple symbolic link should solve the problem:
    Code:
    ln-s / lib/libc.so.6 / lib/glibc.so.6
Do you know how to use the symbolic links in linux, if not then you can take a small tutorial on the same and do not think this will be too hard for you. If you need more help on the same then you can visit the Debian or any linux's official site there you can find more help on this.

    Re: Installing glibc under Debian

    Hello,
I would say it depends on your Debian. You're on Debian Woody? Testing (Sarge =) or unstable (SID =)? If you're on Woody or Testing, it poses no problems. However, it is true that there may be problems with the youth seen SID packets. But do not worry, it's not totally BOUSILLE your system. I hope you are getting the point what i am trying to explain here. If you need more information on the same then you can post here and we will try to solve your queries

    Hello,
Just what are you looking at list of packages you download / etc / apt / sources.list. A moisn course that you are not under Ubuntu.
Besides, for those who want to pass on Ubuntu:
    Code:
    Warty = Debian-Testing
    Hoary-= Debian SID.
    Hope this will help you.
