After my hard drive appeared to crash last month, I ran out to BestBuy and bought another just like it: Seagate 7200.11, 750GB, SATA hard drive. Installed it and all the programs necessary for life to continue, but tons of data was lost on the failed drive.
Then, I tried to salvage the data on the crashed drive by converting that drive to an external drive via a case with a USB connection (even froze the drive overnight in the freezer.)
On doing this, the drive powered up and started spinning, with no unpleasant clicking sounds. But Windows Vista refuses to recognize the drive. I even bought a USB-enabled hub/adapter that allows multiple devices to be read (SD, CF, etc) and it found those, but ignores the drive.
Went into Administrative Tools and it didn't find it either.
Should I give up, and write (you should pardon the expression) off the drive as too damaged, and the data lost, or is there something I am missing?
(Besides the data retreival companies, that is).
A million thanks to anyone who can salvage these long evenings of futility.
thanks.
