Confused between Windows 7 x64 and x86! Which one to install

I am having the Hp laptop which currently has the Windows Vista operating system in it. But now i want to upgrade the operating system of this HP laptop from the Windows Vista to Windows 7 operating system. But i am confused Confused between Windows 7 x64 and x86 versions and not able to make decision which one is to install in this HP laptop. Currently i am having the 32 Bit Windows Vista operating system in this laptop.

Because it may be possible that your laptop does not supports the 64 bit version of the Windows Vista and the Windows 7 operating system. It is better to check the hardware configuration of the laptop to know that it supports the 64 bit Operating Systems or not.

You have not mentioned the hardware configuration and the processor type of the HP laptop that you are having. If this HP laptop has the X86 (32 bit) processor then you cannot install the 64 bit windows 7 operating system in this laptop. And if this laptop has the X64 bit processor then you can install the Windows 7 64 bit as well as the 32 bit version of the operating system in this laptop. Windows 7 64 bit OS requires minimum of the 2GB RAM memory.

I will not recommend you to go for the 64 bit Windows 7 operating system if you are having the 64 bit processor also. The reason for this is that, it is possible that you will not get the driver software of the hardware of your laptop for the 64 bit windows 7 operating system. Where as the driver software is available for the 32 bit version easily. First you should check for the drivers availability of the Windows 7 64 bit OS for your laptop from the Website of the laptop. If it is available then there is no problem in upgrading to the Windows 7 64 Bit operating system.
