Computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual

In the Windows 7 operating system that I am using, computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual. Yesterday I saw that the system was just using 29% of the drive space. But, now the problem that I encountered this morning is that almost 60% of my drive space was utilized. I cannot understand why this is happening. Please reply with the possible solutions that can be used in this situation.

Re: Computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual

If the computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual, then it is possible that there must have been an attack of some worm on your system. Worms are infections that do not cause any destruction in your system, but they occupy all the resources that are available in the computer. So, all the available space may be occupied by the worm and this will also make the system very slow.

Hello there, if the reason for the computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual is a worm, then you will have to install a very good antivirus like AVG in your system, since it can delete infections like virus, trojans and worms too. Run a full system scan and delete all the unhealed infections that are detected during this scan. This will hopefully solve the problem.

Re: Computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual

It is possible that the computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual, since you must have made the copies of the system restore. These files are very big and they may be occupying the unknown space in that particular drive in your computer. Have a check in your C drive if there are any such system restore files and the outcome of the problem will be clear.

I think that you must have set the storage space of the drive to the maximum because of which the computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual. Just follow the steps given below to set the storage space:
  1. Click on Start.
  2. Then, right click on Computer.
  3. There, click on Properties.
  4. You will have to go to System Protection there.
  5. Now, click on Configure to do the setting.

Re: Computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual

I am not quite sure why the computer is reporting more data on C drive than actual. But, it can be that the junk files must have filled in that drive. So, there is a need for optimizing the system. For this, you will have to use the tool called "Speedup My PC". This will help you to remove all the junk and unwanted files from the computer and speed up the entire system.
