    Macintosh HD icon disappeared!

    Hello,

I am having a beautiful white MacBook. I received yesterday, everything is OK! except that since the 10.6.2 update has been completed, the icon that represents the hard drive has completely disappeared from the desktop ...

If I plug a USB key or CD / DVD they normally appear.

Anyone can help me out? Thank you in advance.

Go see the Apple menu, "dashboards", "File Sharing". If file sharing is enabled, disable it. Then click on the icon for your disc. Press the "Enter" and give the name you want your machine. See if it resolves your issue.

There may be an undesirable character In the name of the disk. In this case the following method to repair.

Create a new folder. Give name that you want to give your hard drive. Selects the folder by clicking once on its icon. Copy (Edit menu: "Copy" or apple C). Throw the trash folder. Select your hard drive by clicking on its icon, press the enter key, and paste (Edit Menu Paste = V or Apple). Ok, that should go in order.

There is also a utility, as an extension that allows you to hide or display the name of a disk or folder. I do not remember the name but if you have installed you should remember. Maintains key control (ctrl) pressed then click on the icon for your disc. In the menu that appears, look down the list if there is not an option to show or hide the name.

    Finder / Preferences ...

Check that the first option is checked.

    Here is the steps:

Finder -> Preferences -> General, tick the box "hard drive" and press ok.

    1. Use the Mac OS X installation disc that shipped with your computer to install Xcode, or download it from the Apple Developer Connection and install it.
    2. Open Terminal (in the Utilities folder). Type this command, followed by Return:
      sudo /Developer/Tools/SetFile -a v /
Note: The sudo command requires an admin user account with a non-blank password.
    3. Restart.

More: Mac OS X volume does not appear in Finder or on the desktop after restart or log in
