Types of Backup Option in MAC OS X

    Hi,
I want to take backup on my computer on removable drive. I am using a traditional backup solution via disk utility. But now due to large amount of data I have to add up a external media to the network where I can take entire network's backup and save the same on it. What are the types of backup options available in MAC OS X and what are the features of the same.

It is better to use a 500GB or 1TB external drive on your network for backup. This increases the life of your data. You can then partition it to create a partition dedicated to the clone or regular backup and one that could be dedicated to Time Machine for example. Or even better the hard drive partitioned for the clone and another dedicated to Time Machine.

Perform a full backup or normal. The full backup or normal will save all the data of your computer. This will include the files and sub-folders selected. This is the kind of backup the fastest, simplest and most precise to restore the data without errors. This type of backup is always time consuming but the most safest one because you have all your data in it.

The other type of backup is incremental backup. In this type of data backup, only those file are stored which are modified. The incremental backup backup saves the data that have been modified or added since the last full or incremental backup. The incremental backup saves the latest changes to the files more quickly than a full backup. The disadvantage of incremental backup is the time, complexity and reliability of data restoration. But a little time consuming work.

You can perform incremental backup without any error or data loss. This method does not give out any errors if you will not restore, move or rename any files from the actual location during restorations. To get an accurate restoration of these files, it will then select the correct files to restore long and tedious task if many files are modified. The incremental backup has the great advantage of preserving the successive versions of a document without copying old files.

A other type of backup used in MAC is Differential backup. This one saves the data that have been modified or added since the last full backup. Differential backup allows incremental backup as backing up data more quickly than a full backup, but takes more time than incremental backup. However, this type of backup has fewer drawbacks than the incremental backup.
