    Hello,

Have you tried installing the vista sp2 update in Safe mode? If not then its worth to give a try. Remember to unplug all USB devices or other non-essential to start the computer.

Well i had the similar issue, itried everyhting but nothing worked for me. Well after much research ... and few actually track. The final solution was the full format and complete reinstallation. Why it seems that certain updates blocking the installation of SP2 if they are doing before! It is possible to tell if someone is one but since my PC is new and no file or program is still needed it, I conducted the most simple and fast! After the latest automatic windows update SP2 is passed in the wake no problem. Here is a little extreme but it works good.
