Time Machine Error : The backup volume is read only.

    Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 2.2GHz. The machine is configured so that it would make regular backup'e external hard drive (Buffalo Linkstation) Time Machine program. The last time through the Time Machine, I got backup error message: The backup volume is read only. To select a different volume, open System Preferences and choose Time Machine. Do you know how to evaluate, which may be a problem and how to solve it?

If you use Time Machine with Time Capsule, make sure that Time Capsule is equipped with the software and internal programs the most recent. Apple publishes regular updates of software you can download. Service Update software in Mac OS X lets you identify and easily obtain the information you need. Sometimes a standalone installer is more useful than the function of automatic updating of software.

If need to a repair, contact the Center Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store, which makes repair. Meanwhile, you can browse and retrieve previous backups by clicking the right button of the mouse or by pressing the Ctrl key on the Dock icon Time Machine and selecting Search other backups on the menu context.

Try to fix the Time Machine backup:

    • Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    • From the View menu, choose Time Machine.
    • Move the slider to "Off" if not already done so, turn off Time Machine backups.
    • Open Disk Utility (located in / Applications / Utilities).

Use another Mac with Mac OS X v10.5 on a network or storing backups on a server. Log in to another Mac or server on which Time Machine stores backups. In Disk Utility, the Mac or the server hosting your Time Machine backup must be mounted in the sidebar at the connection. Select your backup server. Click Repair.
