Transfer applications from an old Mac to a new

    Hello.

I bought a MacBook Pro occasions on which I installed Snow Leopard with standard software and optional. I also have an iBook G4 running 10.3 with some applications that I get to the MacBook Pro and an iMac under 10.4 with also applications that I would recover. Aware that some applications are only on one of the 2 macs and others are on the 2, but not necessarily with the same version, I wonder what is the simplest technique. Migration Wizard allows it to choose which applications to transfer or not? I keep versions of what has been installed with Snow Leopard? Is it enough to copy (as root) every application by hand (with a FireWire or Ethernet)? Must also copy "bits" from / Library?

Thank you in advance for your lights and other sharing of experiences.

    The best:
    1. Download the latest version with your serial numbers at hand
    2. Install from CD / DVD home

Otherwise, the 2 networked machines, you copy applications, or via a USB key, or via Target mode (if the iBook supports it?). And if you add necessary supplements that you can find in various libraries .

    Following issues will arise:
    • some apps are complex installl process (with installer) that makes DRAG AND DROP AC will not
    • some apps are not compatible Snow leopard
    • incidentally can pose concerns of licensing

Indeed, I found nothing in the Migration Wizard that suggests we can choose the applications to transfer (but I claim the same rights as you!).

Before starting the transfer, I took the precaution of having a ls-l/Applications and ls-l/Applications/Utilities on the old iMac (10.4) and the MacBook Pro (10.6), then 'I did the same thing on MBP after the transfer.

What seems to Migration Wizard when coach Applications:
    • refuses to copy the apps incompatible with Snow Leopard (like Parallels 2)
    • It does not overwrite the apps already on the target (such Calculator.app DVD \ Player.app etc..)
    • Copy it effectively (and bearing dates) apps the (compatible SL) present on the source machine (like Illustrator, Xpress, MacroShit Office, etc..) Without asking for licenses ...
