How to prevent crash in MAC

Hi,
Due to some buggy software I had faced the sad mac. But many times things go normal when the system reboots. But now this has gone out of limit. The system performance is reduced to a great extent. Second thing what should I do here to prevent a crash in MAC. Some basic housekeeping tricks can help me a lot in avoiding those crashes in MAC so easily. Thanks in advance.

Unlike the BIOS on PCs, Macintosh computers use (for the PPC versions) an Open Firmware. The parameters of the Open Firmware is stored in a memory called NVRAM (Non Volatile RAM or nonvolatile memory). PRAM is in effect a subdivision of the NVRAM.
