Re: How to swap windows 7 licenses

As far as i know you cannot do this that you cannot swap your operating systems with each other because the operating system once installed with the laptop or desktop then it dies with it. Also it seems somewhat illegal but since you have purchased both the copies you can try take help from microsoft's official website.

There is a simple solution to this problem. You simply need to uninstall the operating system from the desktop and install the windows 7 Home premium on it after installing this on the desktop simply upgrade your laptop from the windows 7 home premium to windows 7 professional edition. The licenses will be swapped.

Sounds as you need to install the professional edition in you laptop and then you want to clean install the home edition to your desktop you can install it on your laptop since it is an upgradation but i think that you cannot install the windows 7 home edition on your desktop since you can install it on a single machine.

Insert the professional editions dvd in to your laptop and then select upgrade after upgrading the system the old key will be deactivated automatically. After this clean install the windows 7 home premium on the desktop if it accepts the license key then do this if it does not then try to activate your windows 7 by the phone.

Re: How to swap windows 7 licenses

Since you cannot downgrade the operating system installed on the desktop you will have to do a clean install. On the laptop you will have to upgrade the existing operating system to the windows 7 professional hence select upgrade and the key will be self upgraded. If it does not then activate it by the phone.

Follow the steps mentioned below:

* Go to the start menu , type "SLUI.EXE 4" in the search box, and press the Enter key.
* Select your nearest location, and click "Next".
* After that click Continue and click on-screen wizard to activate Windows 7.
