Re: What is Wubi and how to install it

Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer for Windows users that can bring you to the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other Windows application, in a simple and safe way. It is a program to install and uninstall Ubuntu (or its variants) with Microsoft Windows , like any other program under this operating system. Ubuntu will then appear in the Add and Remove Programs in Windows XP or Uninstall a program in Windows Vista. Ubuntu is installed in a virtual file created on Windows, and a menu entry is added to the initiator of Windows to allow you to load one or the other operating systems.

You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application. Wubi is free of spyware and malware, and being open source, anyone can verify that.

    Re: Installing Wubi

No need to burn a CD. Just run the installer, Enter a password for the new account and click "Install", go do a crossword puzzle, and when you are back, Ubuntu is already installed for you. You must have at least 5 GB of free space in a virtual drives of your hard drives, At least 256 MB of RAM are recommended.

The Wubi installer is included by default in the Desktop CD of Ubuntu and all its variants for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. If you install Ubuntu from the Desktop CD, you do not need to be connected to the Internet during the installation process, use Wubi for files in the Desktop CD for installing Ubuntu.

    • In Windows, insert your Desktop CD into your CD-ROM. An installation menu will run automatically.
    • Select the Install option in Windows to install Ubuntu using Wubi.
    • If the menu Ubuntu installation does not appear, go to My Computer → <your <CD-ROM drive (or computer → <your <CD-ROM drive) and run wubi. exe.

Re: What is Wubi and how to install it

It is a good solution for those who would use it occasionally, those who are curious or who want to test it before through all the steps required for traditional systems. You can also install Wubi from Internet. If you do not have a Desktop CD of Ubuntu or its variants, or if your Desktop CD contains a version earlier than 8.04 LTS, you can download the Wubi installer from the Internet alone. The installer, light, you can download the installation files from the Ubuntu variant of your choice. You must be connected to the Internet throughout the installation process of Ubuntu.

    • Download the latest version of Wubi to the official website of the project.
    • Run the installer by double-clicking on it.

Run Wubi, insert a password for the new account, and click "install". The installation process from this point is fully automatic. When loading your computer, boot menu lets you choose which operating system to use. The installation files (700MB) will be downloaded and checked, after which you will be asked to reboot. Do so and select Ubuntu at the boot screen. The installation will continue for another 10-15 minutes and the machine will reboot again. This is it. Now you can select Ubuntu at the boot screen and start using it.
