How To Backup Windows 7 System Registry

Hi all,

Recently i have installed a Windows 7 in my PC, One of my friend is told me that the registry of windows is helpful to overcome post-system crash situations, That's why i want to back up my all registry from my windows 7 operating system to USB drive. How can i do this. Please help. Thanks in advance.

How To Backup Windows 7 System Registry

You need to do following steps to back up your Windows 7 registry.
# Click on start button and choose search option from that.
# Type regedit and press enter button.
# Then the registry windows will open, click the file option from the menu bar.
# Now click on export button from there , they will export all your registry.
# Save the file with any name and the click on save button.

How To Backup Windows 7 System Registry

You can also export only part of the registry as a backup in windows 7. The steps are given below:
# Open the Start menu and type regedit in the search line and press Enter.
# If it prompted by UAC, click on Yes to approve.
# Right click on a HKEY branch that you want to backup
# Click on Export.
# Select your USB drive to save the exported .reg file to,
# Type the name for the .reg file
# Click on the Save button.

How To Backup Windows 7 System Registry

You can restore the registry in windows 7 by system recovery options by following steps:

# first you need to boot up your system in command prompt.
# In the command prompt, type diskpart and press Enter.
# Type list volume and press Enter.
# In the command prompt, type exit and press Enter.
# In the same command prompt, type regedit /s and the full path of saved reg file name and press Enter.
# For example : regedit /s D:\Users\User-Name\Desktop\Registry Backup.reg and press Enter.
# Close the command prompt window, and restart the computer.

How To Backup Windows 7 System Registry

This will allow you to replace and restore only the keys and values that were in the backup .reg file at the date it was created.
# Just right click on .reg file from where you had saved the file.
# Click on merge.
# After that a windows will pop for confirmation , Yes and No.
# Click on yes to approve the merge.
# then click OK.

There is also an option to avoid system crash and recover is system restore. You need to create a system restore point for that in windows 7. This process will replace your current registry and system files by restoring the registry and system files to date the restore point. Best of Luck.
