Actually before coming to any sort of solution could you please give me some more details about your hard disk partition since it will create a clear picture so that i can implement a solution to your problem. If possible please submit a screen shot of your disk management window in your further replies.

Re: Shifting all programs to another partition in windows 7

Since currently i am in my office so i will post the screen shot of the disk management window as soon as i reach my home till then i would give the details about the harddisk which i have

C:\ drive - Operating system <= ~60 GB
D:\ drive - Documents and Program Files <= ~300 GB

It's quite similar to my XP partition. I think wou will be able to implement a solution to this problem. thanks for replying so early.

So you are having the programs on D: drive as far as i know this is where the problem lies. Since you did a clean install of windows 7 in order to use them.You can just install the programs to the same place that they are now and the installer will make the corresponding registry entries. Don't forget to create a backup to create a word document to be in a safer side.

Re: Shifting all programs to another partition in windows 7

According to me its just not possible because the windows 7 is made in such a way that all the programs get installed automatically to the C: drive of your system and hence you cannot shift the partition of all programs. If you tend to do so you will loose all your data and you will have to reformat your system.

Re: Shifting all programs to another partition in windows 7

In order to achieve shit your program files to some other directory you will have to follow the instructions mentioned below:

* Navigate to C:\Windows\System32
* Find Sethc.exe and rename to Sethc.exe.old
* Find Cmd.exe (it's in the same folder) and COPY AND PASTE a second Cmd.exe
* Rename the Second to Sethc.exe
* Log off, then press the shift key more than five times.
* Then enter the following command as it appears
xcopy -r -s -h (Programs Drive Letter)\Users\(your XP Username)\"Application Data" C:\Users\(Your Window's 7 username)\"Application Data"
Hope this will solve your problem.
