How to safely modify Windows Vista's registry

What are the ways to modify Windows Registry file safely. I had tried once but a error appeared after that. So for clearing that I have to run a registry repair tool. I have some applications which are pending and run on the startup. I need a safe way to tweak windows registry safely without harming the other files and application. And how to access the same in vista

You can modify the registry easily and safely. The parameters and the options of operation, namely the "heart" of Windows are grouped in the register. To right to enter, a single tool: the recognized regedit. You have to open the regedit. To right to enter the registry, then select Start. In the Search box, type Regedit and select OK. The window that appears consists of two parts: left, the tree of "keys" (the equivalent of folders in the registry), right inside the selected key.

Before you have to change anything in the registry, it is prudent to save the key on which to arbitrate. To do this, click the key and save it in the left pane of the window. Then you have to pull down the File menu, to Export. Select a meaningful name and select Save. REG file is created: it contains the key, subkeys and all values they contain. Later, if you want to undo changes to the registry, simply double-click on the icon of the REG file and choose Yes in the confirmation message. The data file will then be fed back into the registry.

It is often useful to show more keys at the same time, for example, to evaluate their data or copy. To do this, you have to open Regedit once. If you try to open it again the same way, the editor window is already open again. To open several times Regedit, click the Start button. In the Search box on the Start menu, type regedit-m and press Enter. Repeat this same command: a new editor window opens each time.

If you regularly need to make a backup of a explicit branch of the registry, for example the branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Microsoft, assign a shortcut. To do this, right click on the desktop and the shortcut menu, choose New. Then you have to select the Shortcut button or the key. In the design window of the shortcut, enter the command reg export HKCUSoftwareMicrosoft c: users (name) documentshkcu.reg to copy the key file in your documents. Replace (name) by your username. Click the Next button. Name the shortcut and click Finish. Subsequently, when you double-click on the shortcut icon, the entire branch (that is to say all the subkeys and all values) will be copied into the file hkcu.reg. To restore data, double-click on the icon of the file and click Yes.

You have an Administrator account, and your kids (or others) have a limited account. Normally, when you want to intervene in the environment of one of them by modifying a given registry, you are obliged to sign his name. There are more simple in the Regedit window, select the HKEY_USERS branch. It is necessary to have information on the different branches in the registry file. Otherwise you will not be able to access the types of applications and keys assign to it.
