One thing you could do is by rebuilding the thumbnail cache by performing the required steps. You could perform this and then make the things to happen in your way to work. All you need to is to clear the cache that is for the thumbnail view and this would let you to make the folder to view its original content. Also a default icon would lend to view the folder in its default manner. So check out for the same. Hopefully the font folder wont show strange icon then.

You can follow the steps for deleting the cache for the thumbnail that is not allowing to view the proper content for the font folder. The steps are as follows:

    * In the search option type disk cleanup and hit enter.
    * It will then start the cleanup wizard for the drive.
    * After it scans the drive it will show an option as Thumbnail in the window.
    * Check the box and then click on ok.
    * It will ask for the option to remove.
    * Remove them and then restart the system.

    This should work.

Well there can be a case through which you can resolve the issue easily and that is by viewing the content in icon type not by thumbnail type. You can set the changes by making it to happen under folder option. Go to control panel from the start menu. Then open the folder option menu from it. Go to the view tab and check the view for that is been checked. If its thumbnail then make it icon type.
