The reason behind this can be many. It is a operating system related issue. Some of the cause can be a corrupted or incompatible third party software. Any outdated drivers or firmware. Some missing files of Windows due to virus or malicious software. First update your drivers. Then try to check for virus issue and repair your windows registry file. Otherwise the last options will be to run a repair installation from Windows disc.

Windows 7 is having many such problems including the incompatible programs. System gets turned off when put to the standby mode may be one of the problems in this operating system. Such problems were encountered in Vista too. Here, have a look at these threads, you may get some idea about the problem::

You need to change your power plan setting of Windows 7.
    Follow these steps:
    # Click the Start and then choose the Control Panel option.
    # Control Panel window opens up. Click All Control Panel Items then select the Power Options.
    # By default the Power saver plan is active.
    # Click down arrow to Show additional plans.
    # Choose Balanced and then click Change plan settings.
    # Choose the Sleep and Display settings and click Save button to save the changes.
#Click Change advanced power settings, the Power Options popup window opens up.
#Select the Plan from the Drop Down box. And change the settings or click Restore plan defaults to undo the changes. Click Ok.
#In the Left Pane, clicking on either Require a password on wakeup or Choose what the power buttons do the window.

    Found any issue reply.
