Hello friends, I am facing this very unusual problems with my desktop computer which is running on Windows Xp. Whenever i am running any application, the system crashes and gives an error 0x24. It gives a blue screen saying the "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer". After restarting the same screen appears after some time. Cant figure what to do. Please help

Have you installed any applications before the windows started crashing? If yes then the installed application is creating problems in running the windows smoothly. many applications while installation link themselves with system files. If such an application is infected by some virus, the system files also get infected and unusable. Try to boot the system in Safe mode and then try to uninstall the application which you have recently installed. During uninstalling becareful not to delete any system files which are linked with the application. Once the application is uninstalled, boot the system normally and see if the windows crashes again.

You will have to reinstall the Windows again as it has been corrupted. Windows consist of many Dynamic link libraries. This Dynamic link libraries are required by the windows function properly. Some applications also require this dynamic link libraries to run and hence modify them at the time of installation. If such an application which has modified the dynamic link library is removed, results in removal of the dynamic link library which was modified by it. Hence when the operating system needs such file, it is missing on the system which creates problems like system crashes. You can try to repair the operating system or install it completely to solve the problem.

To repair the operating system you must have a bootable disk of the Windows. Once you have the bootable disk of Windows, insert it in the CD ROM drive. Enter in to BIOS set up first by pressing DEL key and then change the booting order and make CDROM as the first boot device and Hard disk as the 2nd boot device. Now save and exit the BIOS setup. Now the computer will restart. Press any key to boot from CD. Now the set up procedure will start. Follow the Onscreen instructions (here you can select either to repair the windows or Install a fresh copy of the windows). Select the choice according to your wish and then complete the wizard. Once the procedure is complete, the system will restart and hopefully will not crash again.

Probably the system ram of your computer has gone bad. Whenever the system is not able to access the system ram, it stops working and displays the stop error. This problem usually occurs in monsoon season when there is lot of moisture in the atmosphere which settles down on the connecting terminal of the RAM. Open the cabinet and remove the RAM chip. Clean the connecting terminals of the RAM with a clean cloth and replace it again in the slot. If you have multiple chips, then try checking the performance of the system by using 1 RAM chip at a time. If the system crash continues then replacing RAM is only solution.

Looking at the problem i will suggest that you get your hard drive checked first. Hard drive tend to develop faults on them as the read write cycle increases. More read write cycles develops inconsistent data clusters on the hard drive which become inaccessible after some time. This inconsistent data clusters are called as Bad clusters or bad sectors. If some files of the operating system lie in such sectors, they become inaccessible and hence system fails. Get the hard drive checked by using some diagnostic tool. if the diagnostic finds and repairs the problem it is well and good but if it does not then you will have to replace the hard drive.
