    Best linux distro for netbooks?

    Hello everyone,

I just purchased a Netbook, namely mini hp 311c, and apart from xp that comes with it I want to put any linux, but I would like it to be lightweight and consume little battery stamina making something else. What linux distros do you recommend? And is it possible to install them via usb?

    Thank you very much

Almost all Linux distributions are now as "live" CD, which means you boot from the disc to give the entire OS without having to install anything. Just download the distribution ISO and burn it to CD or DVD on your main computer. You can also convert ISO images on a USB boot using Unetbootin utility.

Go with Ubuntu, this Linux distro has only really been around for a few years, but already it’s become one of the most popular flavors of Linux. Its light and fast, suits to your needs and you also get various open source application for free which won't let you feel the need of windows os.

It's really personal preference, use what feels comfortable. Laptops doesn't gives anything special to OS, as long as the kernel included is recent enough to support all of your hardware, it should be fairly smooth working. Other than Ubuntu, Fedora 11 and Mandriva 2009 are the one of best choices .
