    Re: Quicktime application error

This error is reported when a user has opened a movie in QuickTime Player where the movie resides on an external drive, or mounted server. The Qttask.exe executable file is associated with Quicktime player, which is a video and multimedia player from Apple.

Open Quicktime from the start menu and enter the preferences/options and make sure that it isn't set to automatically check for updates on start up.It looks like your quick time player has a startup problem. qttask.exe produced by Apple, installs a tray bar icon which links to the Apple QuickTime video streaming tool. From the run line, run msconfig and then go into the startup tab and uncheck qtask and restart the computer.

Yes, you can safely remove this process from your startup sequence. If disabled, you can still start Quicktime from its Start menu icon or by clicking on an associated file such as .MOV.Quick Time is installed with Itunes or just alone. In reality, qttask.exe does not provide any additional service other than providing you with quick access to the QuickTime application, which you can also access by clicking on its icon on your Desktop.

    Re: Quicktime application error

Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. QTTASK.exe is located in "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\". A user reports: "Is automatically re-enabled everytime QuickTime is active. You can prevent it from starting with msconfig. Go to Run... type msconfig & under startup uncheck qttask. on next restart and prompting, tell msconfig NOT to come up after reboot.
