Videos makes the Screen freeze in Windows Vista I have recently bought a custom built computer which is installed with Windows Vista. Configuration of the computer is Intel D processor 2.4 ghz, Intel DG-13 motherboard, 1 gb kingston Ram and Nvidia 9800 Gt graphic card. The problem with my computer is that whenever any video is played, the screen freezes and the system gives out a humming noise. It continues for sometime and then the system restarts. Can this be because of my graphic card? Please suggest some solution. |

Re: Videos makes the Screen freeze in Windows Vista Check the voltage levels and the temperature of all the devices connected. Intel provides a software known as Intel Desktop utility which monitors all the voltage and Temperature levels of the devices. Mostly the utility gets installed with the drivers of the motherboard. If it is installed then a small icon with appears in the taskbar with a speed-o-meter sign. Double click on it and check the voltages and temperature levels. You can also set threshold for all the devices. |

Re: Videos makes the Screen freeze in Windows Vista Check the if the application used for playing videos is not corrupted. Uninstall the software which you are using for playing the videos currently. Also remove its keys from the registry using regedit tool in Windows. Save the registry and restart the system. Once the system restarts, Install the software again and check if it freezes again or not. If it does again then check for updates which are available online and update the application. After updating the videos should work fine. |

Re: Videos makes the Screen freeze in Windows Vista You need a better cabinet with extra air vents. Whenever the temperature of the system rises beyond limit the system restarts. To maintain the system temperature it the air flow through the cabinet should be proper. Therefore change the cabinet with a new one which has more cooling fans or Add extra fans to your current cabinets if the SMPS provide the power wattage. |

Re: Videos makes the Screen freeze in Windows Vista Probably the graphic card is getting heated a lot. Check the GPU and the cards temperature. Check if the heat sink is properly placed on the graphic card and if it is not properly placed then place it properly and check the performance of the PC. Also check the cooling fan above the Graphic card if it is working or not. Many times the fan does not work and creates the problem. If the fan and the heat sink are working properly then the problem is with graphic card and it needs to be replaced. |

Re: Videos makes the Screen freeze in Windows Vista It is a typical case of hard drive failure. The hard drive you are using is not performing well when the videos are played. Whenever videos are played the data is continuously read from the Hard drive. Whenever the system cannot read the data from the hard drive, it closes the application but in your case the system restarts. Check if the hard drive is rotating properly or not. It must be stopping after some time which is creating problem. |
