| Problem in installing the downloaded file in Windows 7
Hi, I am having a Compaq presario desktop. Recently my system was infected by some malicious program or virus . I tried to scan my system but was unable to do so because the antivirus installed on my system was not the updated one. I have heard about the latest free avira antivirus , Therefore I downloaded a copy of it from a website , but i am unable to install this file whenever i try to install the file it results into an error "The file format is not executable". please suggest some solution so that i can install it. First of all i would like to know the file format you downloaded , before giving you a solution. Because if the file is not downloaded in the executable file format. Then it does not matter what you do the file cannot be installed . So please let me know the format of your file which you have downloaded. |

The kind of problem you are facing all depends on the file format you downloaded. Try specifying the file name along with the extension that could be either .exe or .zip . For doing this go to the control panel and in the control panel check for the folder options now, Uncheck the box saying "Hide extensions for known file types" or you will find some similar option uncheck that . After doing this you can see the filename along with the extensions. Unless and until we are familiar with the extension cannot suggest a solution. |

You just don't bother about the file format if you have downloaded it properly just right click on it and select the "run as administrator option" . or Else if you are not sure about downloading the file properly then download it from the official website of the AntiVirus since its a free it might be available on its website too. After downloading it firstly uninstall the existing Antivirus if any , already installed on the system then install the downloaded antivirus. |

I have also faced a similar kind of problem in the past. It was a bad download so you don' t have to worry you just have to right click on it and on the file choose "Run as an administrator" . This might help you but if it does not then just go to the site where you have downloaded it from and try downloading it again . After downloading this file install it . this will help you |

I do not think that this is a problem of a bod download or something since such problem are arised due to a previous version of an Antivirus being installed in to your system. So before installing the Antivirus first try to uninstall the installed antivirus and then install the downloaded copy of the antivirus. |
