I think you should try the below steps to reduce the the shutdown time:
    1. First you need to locate the path "Hkey_Current_ User\Control Panel\Desktop" by using the "Regedit" command over run option.
    2. After locating the above path you need to select the "AutoEndTasks" option.
    3. After selecting this value you need to adjust it to value from "0" to "1".
    4. Then you need to choose the "Wait To Kill App Timeout". then you need to adjust it's value to the "3500".
    5. Finally close this window of registry and restart your system.

    Hi friend,

First you need to identify the component which causes your computer to shutdown slowly. Please review following some causes:
    • If your computer has more useless files.
    • If your computer doesn't have enough system memory.
    • Any occurrence of the virus or Spyware.
    • If your computer has more start-up programs.

Re: How to reduce the shutdown time?

I had same slow shutdown problem over my system. I am also working on the windows XP OS. My friend suggested me to scan my computer by using antivirus application . When I scan my system I found 19 viruses and few worms. Then I restated my PC. Then I tried to shutdown my PC and found that my PC took comparatively less time to shutdown . I think you need to do same operation with your computer.

    Hello,

If you are suffering from slow shutdown problem , I recommend you to buy the software known as "Absolute Shutdown". By using this software you are able to shutdown your system in specific time. Here you will get the option to set the shutdown time. When you set the shutdown time windows get automatically shutdown within that period of time. The advantages of this software is that you can define the Shutdown in seconds.
