| Windows 7 cannot detect 1TB external HDD
I am having a problem with my operating system that is Windows 7 is not detecting 1TB external HDD. Everything was going well a couple of days before. I was able to detect the external HDD as well as did some transfer of data too with it. I tried loading DISK MANAGEMENT, but I got a message saying that: "A disk should be initialized before the LOGICAL DISK MANAGER can access it". When I try to initialize the disk, I get an error saying: "INCORRECT FUNCTION". Now, when I try ti right-click on it, the INITIALIZE DISK option is grayed out. Kindly help me with the problem. One of my friends had a similar problem as yours. His Windows was also not detecting the external HDD or any portables inserted in it. I will tell you the method that worked out for him:

You have mentioned that it is recently that Windows 7 cannot detect 1TB external HDD. It means that you are not handling your external hard disk properly. Always do a safe removal of whatever externals you connect into your system by using the "SAFE REMOVE" icon in the tray. If you cannot find it, check in the whole screen if there is some other button to poulate it. This might help you to detect the hard disk and remember to maintain the way you use the portables. |

I do not think that Windows 7 cannot detect 1TB external HDD because there is some problem with the OS. I suppose that the problem is with your hard disk. May be an infection must have entered your external HDD and must have locked it. Try detecting it through DOS/COMMAND PROMPT. Or else, connect your external HDD to someone else's computer who has a well updated antivirus. Format it and then try detecting it in your system. Hopefully it might solve your problem. Always scan your externals when you connect to any system and check for infections. |

Windows 7 cannot detect 1TB external HDD because there may be a problem with the cord that you are using. This may be the case as you said that it has occurred recently. So, try to connect it to your system after changing the cord. Hopefully, it must work. If it does not, then there has been some problem with the external hard disk. Take it back where you have bought it from. |
