| Windows 7 freezes on Disk.Sys
I have a pc with Windows 7 RTM 64 bit running as my operating system. But every time i install windows 7 it copy's the files and unpacks etc then reboots to finish the setup but every time it does it just stays at the new "starting windows" screen. I found that I can no longer boot into Windows in regular, safe or repair mode. My pc just freezes after the "starting windows" screen without the animation starting. In safe mode, the pc freezes when it hits "disk.sys". I can't even use the installation CD to boot into repair mode. Why does my Windows 7 freezes on Disk.Sys? Anyone have any ideas? Kindly help me out to resolve the above issue. Thanks. |

Windows setup log files are in different locations on the hard disk. These locations depend on the setup phase. If you own another available DVD drive, please connect it to the computer and boot using the installation CD. DVD image is good otherwise it wouldn't expand files - had this problem in my opinion it might be hardware issue, run it in safe mode if possible (was it F8 during startup?) Then boot in WinRE to perform System Restore, if System Restore doesn't work, let try to use DISM to revert pending actions. |

Basically before installing Windows Updates, Windows will automatically create a restore point on the hard disk. For Windows 7 (if you insist on this method) make sure you are using the Windows 7 drivers, and not the ones for Vista or XP. You properly can run System Restore to get the previous status of the hard disk on another computer. Your OS should not be on the RAID10. Your data should be kept on a separate array than your OS, or at least separate physical drives. You should be able to use 2008 R2 drivers as well. |

Since Windows 7 would not even boot into safe mode, my only alternative was to swap out the card. Go to ASUS website and download drivers you need , than go to "device manager", select the warning of malfunction than go to update drivers, select the setup you downloaded before and your update will work. After replacing it with a Radeon X1650Pro card, Windows started right up. To start with enable boot logging, thats in the BOOT.INI tab of msconfig,, then reboot to nake a log, also, look to see if you have this log C:\WINDOWS\WindowaUpdate.log do those and post back what the boot logging says, and if you can upload the update log in windows skydrive. Even though "disk.sys" was the last thing to show before the system freeze, I suspect that the next item to load was actually the cause. |
