How to disable EDID in Vista

I know that EDID is a standard for monitors where the maker can program all refresh rates, resolutions and many other features by a chip which is located on the monitor itself, and that can be read by the Operating System. The OS Vista strictly forces EDID and there seems to be no way to disable this so that you can use a .inf driver. No matter what monitor driver you install, it will be completely ignored, in it's place the manufacturer written EDID will be used in all circumstances. EDID was only programmed to support 1600 x 1200. Does anyone know the solution??

In Windows XP you can disable the EDID very easily. Because there are no hacks available to disable EDID in Windows Vista like there are in Windows XP. I think ATI drivers have the option to disable EDID (havent confirmed it working yet) but NVIDIA drivers do not. Below are the only steps, for now atleast :
Use a software called Powerstrip to flash the EDID. By doing this you can programme to support the resolutions or features that are currently lacking.
Its tricky and will work for most the monitors.

You can also disable EDID on DVI just by removing pins fixed on VGA cable. The pin 12 on VGA cable has to be removed, then after connecting it to a VGA->DVI adapter and it shouldn't be able to get any EDID info. Also try a DVI cable and a VGA with all the pins in first if your going for dual monitor support (if output is for two monitors). And you can override the EDID info via the nvidia drivers if you can read EDID, for single monitor support.

Well, adding the custom resolution will not work. So try to install some software with which you can flash the EDID. After flashing you can disable the EDID, even in Vista. There is no way to force the drivers to treat it as a DVI connector instead of HDMI.. So disabling EDID can be considered as drawback for Vista.
