Lost 140 GB when Windows 7 was installed

    Hello everyone,
Recently, I installed Windows 7 operating system in my system that had a hard disk capacity of 320 GB along with a Core2Duo processor. It kept creating a partition of about 100 GB. Since, I did not want to create another partition of 100 MB, I increased the partition size to 140 GB. So, I lost 140 GB when Windows 7 was installed. Windows 7 is having its 100 MB, but how do I get my 140 GB back. Please give some solution to my problem.

You have lost 140 GB when Windows 7 was installed, so it seems that there is some problem in the disk management of the system. The problem must have occurred when you were partitioning/managing space of your disk during installation of Windows 7. Check out the partition and allocation of volume on your hard disk. I dont think that the 140 GB has anything to do with the 100 MB of Windows 7. Correcting your disk management will solve your issue and probably you will get back your lost space.

You can recover the lost 140 GB while Windows 7 was installed. Even I had been encountered with such type of issue a couple of weeks ago. Just follow the following simple steps:
    1. Right click on My Computer, then select Manage.
    2. There, go to disk management.
    3. In that, the lost 140 GB will be seen probably on the first partition/drive.
    4. Right click on that drive and decrease its size to 100 MB.

Hopefully, you will recover your lost drive space.

As you lost 140 GB when Windows 7 was installed, that means that there is some error with the Windows installation. If you have the Windows 7 installation CD, then you will have to reinstall the operating system once again. This time, first after formatting manage your disk space and do the partition properly. Check if you have done any mistake during space allocation. After that, you can start installing the operating system and you will recover the lost space which you had lost during the last installation.

    # Right click on My Computer, then select Manage.
    # There, go to disk management.
    # The lost 140 GB should be showing as unallocated.
Just right click on it & format it, now the drive should show up in my computer
