| Continuous reboot after chkdsk
Running Vista home basic on a Gigabyte GA-G33M/S2 with an Intel E4300 and 4GB of Corsair memory. I tried to install SP1 and it failed so I ran chkdsk to make sure there were no disk problems. It finished, fixed a couple of minor problems, and told me the disk was fine. Then it got stuck in a reboot cycle where it would get to the "Microsoft Corporation" progress bar, stay there for 5 to 10 seconds, then reboot again. When trying safe mode it would load some files then stop. After a couple of tries I got it going again with my Vista disk and a restore point (which I'm glad I remembered to make before I started). It seems to be running fine but I'd like to know what happened. |

When it had finished it told me the installation failed and it was restoring previous settings or something to that effect. |

Search for System Update Readiness Tool from microsoft. Download and install it. Then update your system with sp1 hope this works... |

| Re: Continuous reboot after chkdsk
Thanks Jay. I ran the tool and it found a couple of problems. I fixed them and re-ran it and it told me there were no errors. I tried SP1 again and it crashed my whole system. I couldn't even get my Vista disk to repair it with a restore point (let it run all night) I had to do a new install. That would be the third try with SP1. Now that I have a clean install I'm going to try installing all of the updates, through SP2, before I install any other programs. Downloading the first batch right now. Wish me luck! |

Sorry Dr. electron because of the system crash. I want to tell you that system reboot after installation of SP1 is a serious issue with even Microsoft. Microsoft has also given special guidelines when you have such a kind of problem. Don't worry this problem is not only with you. Here are some links which will help you. http://4sysops.com/archives/list-of-...ervice-pack-1/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358 |
