What is General Public License?

Hi folks,

Whenever i install any of the free software to my PC I always noticed the word General Public License. What is the GPL and why we need to agree on the same. Anyways its nothing to do with my software or Computer It just my curiosity to know about the same. Please reply me.

The General Public License is the license for the open source. It allows the people to download the software for the free. Now day almost all software development companies use this technology. GPL is friendly in nature so that if the user is not willing to agree on the condition of the software then also he can use the software.

Most of the software are available to the user who can pay the amount to use the same. This bound the user for the free use of the application. The GPL insure the user to use the software for free. It allow the user to share the application, change the application, or create copies of the same.

The word freedom does stand for the free software not for the price. Its basically based on the Open Source which allows user to see the source code.

The GPL allows to create the copies of the software for the selling purpose. The user can make copy by using source code available or download from the internet. It is developed by the Richard Stallman. GPL tells the user about how to get the application.
It agrees the user under the copyright law.
