My start menu has vanished!

Hi,
I have Compaq desktop computer which works well until last night.Today when I turn on my computer I noticed that my taskbar and start menu doesn't appears .I wait for 15 minutes but nothing appeared.I just turn off computer by pressing power button.When I turn on my computer I face same problem.I don't know why this happening.Please help me.

I think it may happened due to some virus.As you said that you can not open any program.I suggest you to press Ctrl+Esc key, then your start menu program will open from that way you can go to antivirus program and scan your system thoroughly.If you doesn't find any thing then you have to format your PC with windows xp CD.I think this will help you.

I also had the same problem then some one said me how to get rid out of this problem.I think you can also solve this problem,just try following steps.
Go to following site:

Once you open this page scroll down to line 195 at right-hand column you can find "Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar".Click on it and download .vbs file.Once you download it saved it and run it.Once you finished you can find that your start menu and Taskbar is appeared.

I think it may be hidden.Have you leave your Taskbar/start menu hidden?It may happened that for some reason you hide your taskbar/start menu to view full screen or just for fun.try to move your mouse over the bottom edge of the screen,if it appear then it means that it you accidentally hide the toolbar.If you don't want to hide toolbar right click on Taskbar->click on properties->then deselect "auto-hide the Taskbar" .
