hi, ok heres what happened. a friend of mines pc had a bad virus so he asked me to reformat and reinstall windows xp on the machine. it was a dell dimension 3000. after the reinstallation i installed all the drivers except the audio drivers from the dell website would not install. i kept getting the error messages.
in device manager the "multimedia audio controller" had a yellow question mark next to it, which means that this device ahd an issue with the driver. after some thinking i went into bios system setup and checked to see wether audio device was on, it wasnt so i turned it on. after the pc turned on the drivers for audio installed successfully.
now heres the problem the sound is onboard not a seperately installed soundcard, all I/O ports on the back of the tower work perfectly, however the front panel headphone jack isnt working.
what could it be?
thanks in advance
