An error occurred while windows was working with the Control Panel file

    Hi,

On my windows xp pc, when I double click on the control panel an error message appears, An error occurred while windows was working with the control panel file: C:\windows\system32\sysdm.cpl. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Is there anyone that could help me! Any way to deal with the control pane problem?

Check through the links / threads at the link below. Maybe if you go to Start> Run and type: MSCONFIG and click OK to search the startup tab you will find a reference to it and uncheck it and restart the computer.

You need to check whether DLL is missing or corrupt. To find the file with the search tool, go to the Start menu and select Search. Click Files or Folders option, and type sysdm.cpl in the Name box. Click Find Now. After a quick search, the file should appear on the list of found files. If not, then the file is not found. If the file is not listed, then it needs to be renamed because it is damaged. Try repairing the registry by using windows repair, it may fix your problem.

Re: An error occurred while windows was working with the Control Panel file

When you attempt to change display properties using the Display tool in Control Panel or by right-clicking the Desktop and then clicking Properties, you may receive the following error message: An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel file C:\Windows\System\sysdm.cpl. You should change the path of sysdm.cpl file from registry. In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. Reset the value of NoPropertiesMyComputer REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1) to NoPropertiesMyComputer REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)
