    Try following:
1.When it begin to go in standby mode try hitting the power button that present on the front of the computer's CPU, this should bring it back to life .

2.Or in other way you can simply turn off the standby by changing the settings of power within power saving check.
Go to properties and check whether your computer is set to go on stand by mode. If you don't want it to go to stand by then all you need to do is change the setting.

Before taking your system to any hardware shop try doing following things ,If you still have the problem then only give it to hardware shop for repair.
1.Update all mother board drivers .
    2.Scan your computer with anti-virus.
3.Format your computer and re-install with proper xp CD.
    4.dis-connect and connect all parts.

From your problem I don't know what exact reason for your problem but I think it is may be due to over heating. When your computer over heat it simply turn off automatically to prevent any damage to processor.I suggest you just check whether your fan on processor is correctly working or not and also check whether other fans are working or not.If you are familiar with hardware then try to remove dust they also causing heating problem.
I think this will help you.
