iMAC screen goes grey

I have 20" Intel Core 2 duo iMac with 4G RAM, 160 GB hard drive. When I start my iMac, it suddenly gives blank grey screen. I experiencing this before lot of time. But now my cursor made some vertical lines traveling from left to right. These lines are approximately 5 to 10 mm in width. I can not see my desktop icons. Is there any problem in a hardware? So give me some solution.

You can build an external firewire drive with image using system installer CD. Use any old mac to format firewire drive with single patition. For this go to disk utility , select options -> GUID partition map so it will boot from your Intel mac. Connect firewire drive to your mac and use disk utility to restore OS. It will make firewire drive as a external bootable firewire system drive. Connect firewire drive to your dead mac and boot holding option key. Clock arrow below the firewire drive icon. It looks like a mac is frozen but when you restart it your problem may resolved.

I have intel iMac running OS 10.5 in it. I was facing the same problem. My suggestion would be go to apple store and talk with him about your problem. I think your CPU going bad due to overheating. There are other error also like bad ram or corrupt OS so it safe to contact with them because they will provide required help. You can test the ram but you can not test other things.

Re: iMAC screen goes grey

First reset the P-RAM and power off the computer and unplug the power cords. After 10 minutes connect them and check that your mac is working or not. If not then you have to format the OS and install new copy of OS because there are chances that OS files are may be corrupted. SO install OS and experience the difference.
