Error code 0x800405aa in Windows XP

    Hi,

When Windows Update told me that SP3 is ready for download. I tried to download but it failed after about 20 minutes after downloading a "preparing your computer to download. When I tried the second time, I got the same result each with the Error code: 0x800405aa. It seems to be a code different from the others, so what is it and how I can overcome it.

You encounter this error message if there are error codes within the third-party program you are trying to use. Have you tried to take computer back to "last known good configuration" or Safe Mode: by pressing F8 as XP bootup.

Error code 0x800405aa usually indicates that not correctly set the partition size in target designer. It is important that tools and Embedded FBA know the size of the target partition. If the actual size is manifestly incorrect with respect to the property settings in Target Designer, you receive this error. You can check or change the settings in Target Designer, Open your configuration in Target Designer. Click the Settings node, located near the top at the root of this configuration. You should now see a list of links in the user configuration interface (UI) in the right pane. Click Target Device Settings. Under this heading, click Show. This dynamic HTML is extended, showing that detailed configuration settings of destination. Scroll down to locate the size of the boot partition (MB) setting You see here that the default is 1024 MB. This adjustment is your target partition will be approximately 1 GB in size. Change this to indicate what the size of the target device partition will be when you deploy the runtime.

A third-party backup utility or an antivirus program interferes with the installation of Windows XP. WinTools is the third-party software that is most commonly known to generate these error codes. Remove it from add/remove programs.
