Boot Camp Assistant Cannot Be Used

    Hi,

I try to install a windows partition with Boot Camp. But it can't be opened, with an alert pop up as:when I start Boot Camp Assistant it gives me the following error : "Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant". Does anyone have the solution ?

Bootcamp assistant can only run with a drive partition formatted with the Mac OS, if there is more a test hard drive to install 2nd partition. if you use Disk utility or any other type of drive to partition. Use dungen Disk utility to remove the partition to rest, when installed XP, will create a new partition, make your own disc label to use to delete the new partition and then run Boot Camp assistant to install xp.

Boot Camp does not work on Macs with hard drives that were divided into two or more volumes with a disk partitioning utility other than Boot Camp (for example, if the disk has been partitioned with Disk Utility) . It requires an Intel-based Mac with a single partition, Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later.

Download the latest firmware update. This panel displays in the Software Update pref. Its main purpose is to allow access to the EFI software that requires a BIOS (you can install Windows on a partition ready). You can not load Windows, or boot to Windows if not installed the firmware update. You need not install it unless you install Windows. The SMC's latest update does not affect Windows startup,it appears in the pref panel of Software Update, and is recommended for all Mac users has been fixed other hardware, and could also help with the use of Windows (perhaps the firmware update helps with cooling, and other features). The BootCamp software has not been updated since the launch, and of course contained information on the firmware update is only available at the time, which provides the Windows startup. It is still the latest firmware update, and it is still necessary to install Windows. The new firmware update is not named but is called SMC Firmware Update (small detail, but there) Both firmware updates are independent of each other.

If you have previously partitioned your hard disk with Disk Utility or other disk partitioning software, complete these steps before installing Boot Camp :

    1. Backup up any important data as the following steps will erase the drive.
    2. Start up from your Mac OS X Install DVD.
    3. Open Disk Utility and erase (format) the hard drive as a single partition with Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and the GUID Partition Scheme. All data on the disk will be erased.
    4. Quit Disk Utility.
    5. Install Mac OS X from the DVD.
    6. After starting up from your hard disk and completing installation and the Mac OS X Setup Assistant steps, update to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later.
    7. Download an install the latest firmware update available for your Intel-based Mac if you have not yet done so.
