Gnome is not letting me burn CDs

Until recently I was using KDE 3.5.10 on my computer and was working very well. I recently tried and install gnome 11.2 because I am a little worried about the memory usage of KDE 4.3 especially memory cache. Gnome was working very well untill recently it although started acting differently. I tried to burn an ISO image to the disk and I see that i don't have the rights, I checked with both cdrom and disk. But i still cannot burn my iso image with dvd burner on the cdrom. With KDE I tried and could do it without problem. Gnome is not letting me burn CDs. What may be the problem? Any suggestions?

Re: Gnome is not letting me burn CDs

If you are on Suse, try this : In YaST under you should add yourself to the groups cdrom and disk and then save the settings. Reboot the computer and see if you can burn the CDs/DVDs. Also not all the DVD and Audio CDs play in all multimedia application. This is a bug of Suse and i don't know if it has solved. For this reason i switched to Ubuntu. I hope this could help you. Also post back if it doesn't...

Re: Gnome is not letting me burn CDs

How do i add myself in the cdrom group? I don't know how to do it. Please can you explain the steps? Please help the n00b. Yes, i'm using OpenSUSE 11.1. Also how long can it take to resolve this bug? If i change the setting now, will it not affect my system when the bug fixes arrives with the update and hit my system? I just don't want to screw my system. Thanks again...

Re: Gnome is not letting me burn CDs

Adding your users to group "cdrom" and group "disk" and then restart your PC will let you burn CDs and DVDs. This can be done by going to the following menu :
YAST > Security and Users > User Management > your-user-name > Edit > Details > Groups > check cdrom and disk and then click on "Accept". Once this is done, quit YaST. And now reboot your computer, Try to burn any CD, can you do it? Do post back, Also if still you cannot burn do post what error are you getting. All the best!

Re: Gnome is not letting me burn CDs

If the above trick doesn't work, you will also need to edit this file :
Code:
/usr/share/PolicyKit/policy/org.freedesktop.hal.device-access.policy
Make changes according to the changes you made to your users and specify the changes in the file. When done, save the file and again reboot the computer. Try again, what happens?
