How to restart X server

Does any one know how to restart X server? I was changing some system settings in Linux and i was trying to set the display resolution to 85hz and when i select save button it comes with pop us "restart x server" to save the changes. What does that mean "restart x server"?

To restart X server use the following command :

- killall -TERM Xsgi
- hold down the left-Control, left-Shift, F12 and keypad slash keys
- /usr/gfx/stopgfx; /usr/gfx/startgfx
- reboot

CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE should do the trick or You can logout, and log back in, should do it, as it should drop you to GDM and restart X11 in the process - other option would be to reboot entirely.
