Recover Grub2 bootloader after Windows XP Installation

Hello friends, I want to Recover Grub2 bootloader after Windows XP Installation. I had Ubuntu 9.10 clean install and it was working flawlessly. I installed Windows XP on a seperate partition, but Windows XP took over Grub2 bootloader. I have no idea how to get it back. I cannot boot into Ubuntu now. Please help, I have some important files which i don't want to loose...

I have not yet got my hands on Ubuntu 9.10, will do it in some days, I think the basic method would be the same as the one which was applicable with Grub bootloader. I think you should try it out. But before that make sure you backup your data that resides on Ubuntu. You can do that by booting into the live environment from the Ubuntu bootable CD. Hope this helps...

Re: Recover Grub2 bootloader after Windows XP Installation

Grub2 was a bit buggy untill the final Ubuntu 9.10 was released. So not many have tried it out. But to be sure, just backup your data by booting into live environment and Re-install Ubuntu again in the same partition where it was installed before. This way, Grub2 Bootloader will take over Windows Bootloader again and you will have a option to boot in either of the Operating Systems... All the best!

Try this out. Boot from Ubuntu 9.10 Live CD. Open Terminal and type the following commands one line at a time :
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install grub2
    sudo update-grub2
    sudo os-prober
    Hope this helps...
